Mentorship Platform for Incarcerated Individuals: Anonymous Q&A at Scale
Designing a nonprofit mentorship app that connects incarcerated individuals with mentors nationwide — built around anonymity, not profiles, so the wrong details never get shared.
Frequently asked questions
Can mentors see who's asking a question?
No. The incarcerated or recently-released user's identity is never shared with mentors — they see the question, topic, and the asker's history of past questions, nothing more.
What does "pooling" a question do?
It sends the same question to multiple mentors in the relevant topic at once, instead of waiting on a single mentor to respond.
How are mentors vetted?
Through a signup process that includes professional details, supporting documents, and a short video response to a couple of screening questions — all reviewed by admin before approval.
What happens if a response is reported?
Admin reviews it manually. If it's found to breach guidelines, it's unpublished and flagged, and no longer visible to any user.
